well it would be kinda hard to have an exclusive beta contest in any timely fashion as they should be finishing that up soon anyways, so i would also assume "open" beta

Technically you could sign up, having already secured a place in open beta, and just input your friend's address into the form. It's not like they can police that. Should you? Probably not
