Too early for nostalgia re PS2?

Pulled this out of the bowels of Youtube. PS2 was such a mysterious thing when this was first released.

Look at the tower lol.

No idea why the link doesn't embed, I though the forum used to figure them out, I tried a few typical tags too to no avail.

i remember seeing those and being excited for the game, and thinking that the guns & players looked cool.

boy oh boy did we get something different. PS2 looks now and looked at release way more cartoony than it does there

I was kinda stunned by the cartoony graphics in EQ Landmark but it makes sense from a business perspective in a free to play game. If things are too "realistic" it limits cash shop imagination and that is kind of what has happened to PS2. They have made things a little less detailed lately for performance reasons but in hind sight they might have liked to make it less realistic from the start so they can sell more imaginative game items that would fit a less restrictive art design.

While it might look more interesting, it most certainly wouldn't be defensible in any way, shape or form
It's basicly screaming "Please farm me! God, these legs makes me look fat!"

Lol, remember when night was dark and it was actually hard to see on Esamir? I also remember when weather was supposed to be a factor to help set up attacks/ambushes.

I think by the looks these towers might have ended up being used as walltowers. And yeah, that video looked way less goofy and cartoonish as the actual game does now. No glowing beach buggies or funny hats...

As for memories, i remember mostly the first days esamir came out in beta (everyone was constantly warpgated by...nc i think?), and the cool tech plant battles before they turned the base into yet another deathmatch arena.

Oh, and the awesome "last stand" cont locking battles in the early live game (spec ops on miller anyone? ^^). That was actually the most fun and most "planetside" moments i had in this game...but of course they had to fuck that up too by using this silly "threshold" mechanic that removed any feeling of having to fight for your lock...bleh.

Yeah, I remember a last stand by VS in Connery tower up in the north, lasted for hours and we held on, best memory in PS2 to date but unlikely ever to be repeated due to how the game 'works' now.
