I haven't played the game, so i'm not saying that this is going to be a problem for sure, but won't the display for handles and names become a problem??
If anyone have tried the game "Codename Eagle" (not exactly new anymore, but...), they would know how much it ruins the game when you scout the land on a foggy day, and see the name "NoobFucker", but can't see the actual player! Won't it become an instant giveaway of peoples positions to have a giant red name or VANGUARD walking/driving around far in the horison? Last edited by Novac; 2003-04-09 at 09:06 AM. |

Names only appear if they are close enough - you have an implant that will enhance this ability so you can see them from further away...
but big names wont be showing from miles away or even that close so it wont make a difference. also the names only appear when you put your target reticule over them

There are several reasons, but the 2 big ones are: 1) Log on to battle.net sometime and check out the collection of pond scum who hang out there, and the types of names they choose...now imagine imbeciles like that in your squad. At least on battle.net you don't have to interract with those people in the game. 2) How do you send a tell to someone named **[=OohgaBo0ga~~@*] without going insane trying to spell it right (and the inevitable combinations of letters/characters that look similar but aren't, like the shitheels who make long string character names composed of nothing but lower case L's and upper case i's.)...plus you might need to talk to that person quickly to form tactics or give orders or request information, and that isn't going to happen if you have to puzzle through their name every time you want to talk to them. Those arguements of course leave aside the need for an outright name filter to eliminate such lovely names as "KhuntBoy", "JewKiller", "HughAss", and other bullshit like that. |

I think I read somewhere that names can be up to 32 (or somewhere around there) character long and contain only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 1-10).
If that's correct, it will be fine by me... it's the future and parents can name their kids anything they want and soldiers can go by any handle they want to. Besides, it's better to die to the enemy being known as KidMax2930 than to get picked off for being named Clarence in my opinion. No offense intented for the Clarence's out there... |
