Greif system

I was wondering about the greif system. I think it's a good idea, but i forsee some problems. For example, in close infantry combat it is likely that you will from time to time have a stray bullet will hit a friendly, especially using a cone of fire system. Or splash damage weapons hitting stupid allies who run right up to enemys before engaging. Or large explosions from tank shells or air to ground weapons that have splash damage. Or if you were to run over an ally in a tank or crash a plane into an ally vehicle or something. How does the grief system deal with this?

That'd be kind of cool if it didn't apply to people in your outfit, then you could have scrimages and stuff occasionally. Just kick griefers out of the outfit. :-)

i think it's squads members, not outfits, that do no give grief points. also, if you don't hit chase after your fellows, i doubt you'll gather enough grief points to be issued a warning.

I *hope* they implement (if not already) where you cannot get TK points from an Outfit. I mean, if they're being dumb you just kick them out of the Outfit then - much like a Squad.

All I can say is they have to have some kind of anti-TKer system in. And unfortunately any kind of system will be slightly detrimental to people whom it is not meant for. All I can say for now is to just try and aim for either the enema or your squad.

I "believe" that you accumulate "grief points" as you do damage to people. For each point of damage you cause, you get a grief point. They slowly go away with time.

Also, after a certain number of grief points, I understand that you get "locked down". Not sure, but I think I heard something about not being able to purchase stuff from terminals and/or not being able to fire weapons.

I'm sure whatever system they have in place is likely to change before release.

If you amass a certain amount of grief points, then your speed goes down to 10% of your normal speed, and you cannot fire your weapon. If you find some way to continue killing and griefing, you will get banned. Prolly for a LONG time.

I think as long as you don't make a habit of shooting people from your empire, you won't accumulate enough grief points fast enough to cause worry.

It's going to happen to everyone. A stray bullet here, an explosion that takes out a friendly, that kind of thing. Just don't try to waste your empire mates and all will be well. Unless, of course they're in your squad and it is necassary for some tactical move.

What I want to know is if there will be any indication wether a person is a griefer or not to the general public.

I mean, if "Joebob" says he wants to join your squad, you'd let him, most likely. But if the game notified you that he was a level 2 griefer (or whatever) then you'd realize that he was likely joining so he could waste the lot of you during an important fight or something, and not let him join.
...
Anyways...

That's a good point... "Joebob" could be a big problem, and he could do that without even getting to lvl2 or even lvl1 griefer. He could just do that to random squads gearing up their galaxy, and wipe everyone out as soon as it lands near a base. Sure he'll get kicked from the squad, but he didn't get any grief points, so he could do it to the next squad gearing up in the sanctuary.

I'd imagine the first victim squad would be pretty vocal around the sanctuary about "Joebob" but you can't always count on that.

Perhaps commanders should have a "grief kick" so that the person kicked doesn't know they're out of the squad but they'll accumulate grief points anyway. Once they move up a grief level, then they'll be told, and probably leave the squad, but at least the next squad could see that this guy is at least a lvl1 griefer.

Then you have the problem of a commander of a random squad you join griefing his members by giving the grief points.
Isn't sad how we even have to have this discussion... stupid griefers

scratches chin in thought

I'm going to be the innocent player that ends up with lots of grief points. I have a tendency (albeit in the heat of battle) to fire rocket launchers/throw grenades who's explosions take out team mates.

Scenarios usually are, we've located the enemy in a room, i switch to the rocket launcher, and fire into said room, unfortunately, i didn't get my warning out in time and half my team is already at the door. if my rocket actually misses a teammate, the proceeding explosion from in the room usually does plaenty of damage.

fun fun... i'll stick to being a medic.

I think that the greif system was started with good intentions. I remebr countless times having to deal with ppl who get some sorda twisted pleasure outa killin their teammates(and trying to wen ff is off, go figure). But they should have some way of isolating it because accidents, and idiots, do happen. They could have some1 in the games watching and banning tkers, were payin em monthly so i think that could a service to us.
