I was just wondering if one of you beta-enlightened people wouldn't mind bringing me into the light on a topic I was very concerned about. How are the travel times in this game? Do you find yourself spending a majority of your time on just getting to the fight? I was just wondering because I know that can be a big problem for a game this massive. Thats one of the main reasons I don't play Morrowind anymore. I just hatred traveling for 15 minutes just to kill things for 3 minutes and start the 15 mintue travel back to where I started from. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I just wanted to say Thx to all the beta people for taking time out of busy schedule of important things <COUGH>planetside<COUGH> to answer our questions.

I'd like to add to the question. How long does it take to warp from continent to continent? And how fast do ya come outa the gate?

Plus, driving a quad over hills is really fun.

I have cable, a p4 2.4 and 512 megs of ram. The first continent you join after logging in takes the longest to join, and I think it may be about 30 seconds. There is also a bit of stutter in the first 20 seconds of play while it finishes loading everything. After that, the other continents load in about half that and play is pretty smooth.

You cross the gates very quickly. You are only limited by how fast you can load the continent.

the game loads all the major stuff when you first log on, and each time you "zone" it loads the flair (trees, rocks, gremlins) and the sky. load times are super fast and traveling can take a while, or it can be very fast, there is a huge plane called the HART which can teleport you pretty much anywhere, and makes its rounds once every 15 minutes, or you can fly/ride yourself.
but one thing is for certain, vehicles are key |

it could probably take over an hour to travel across the larger continents by foot. maybe 45min. Running is slooooow But on the reverse side, it only takes a few minutes to drive a harasser across one. Travel times in this game dont bother me much if i have a vehicle because driving and flying is fun jumping off hills is awesome stuff in your buggys and tanks. Running really far does tend to suck though, fortunatly its rare you haveto do this.

I personally think travel time is excellent. Foot soldiers will want to get a Basilisk for cross-continent travels, as it's a long walk, but it's not so long that you cross huge expanses of terrain to get from base to base, rarely if ever finding an enemy in the wilderness. The scale of the game is really quite good in that regard. It's big enough to make it feel like a war, not big enough to make it time consuming and tedious to travel from place to place.
