My friend got into Beta and he said all it does is crash his pc. is this true?

Before the reset of the beta forums or at the time when the open beta testers were allowed on by "clerical mistake" I did see abound on the forums problems so severe that at least five individual people had to reformat their HDDs. Supposedly it overwrote some Windows files, I'm not really sure of the issue as I was locked out that evening.

I'm guessing it was an isolated incident.
