I saw that once before (a couple of weeks ago) when the server went down for patching and was not able to be brought back up (we were put on the staging server for the meanwhile).
It seemed like 10 different workstations for different devs rather than whole worlds that were meant for playing, If it is the same thing I saw, then the servers had devs names on them and had a different server type than the three main ones. (that same day I also saw a list of only two servers that had names that seem like everquest server names.) I don't think we are getting 10 new servers.

I'm willing to bet that you will be playing on 10 or so new servers. SOE will - as only logic would dictate - have enough servers to support over 100,000 people for retail release and it would not make sense to leave those server untested.
BTW, for those of you not so computer savvy. The servers that games like these run on are not your daddy's workstation. These are rack mount servers probably running several processors in each rack. Every couple of racks probably supporting one continent with a couple cabinets worth of racks making up the world server. Then those are linked to some massive ass storage servers with more hard drive space than you can even come up with a name for (Ok, they're called terabytes, 1 terabyte=1024 gigabytes). If you have no idea what i'm talking about here are some Rack Cabinet (just so you know, this is a more compact cabinet at only a little over 6ft high) Edit: Oh yes, and anything over 3000 users on one server would be friggin rediculous.

They've announced there are 60,000 beta keys floating around...
Realize for a second, there are 420,000 active everquest accounts. Everquest's record for number of users online at once is around 110,000. This is the _record_. So the most users was only a little over 1/4th of the total number of accounts. Doubt more than 10-15,000 people are going to be online at once in beta. That'd be 3 servers. That's of course assuming they'd hit their record percentage they got with Everquest, as well as every single one of the 60,000 keys gets to somebody that creates an account. I doubt it. |
