well tried deleting my character to try a different empire and instead of deleting it just freezes for 30 secs then returns to normal and dosnt delete anything, anyone else haveing this problem?

Yeah, me too. Report it as a bug. I did, and I couldn't ever get rid of them, but there seems to be a player limbo problem - something tied in with the server load.

There is a bug with deleting characters. Its a known issue.
