I've got a flat screen and can only put highest res is like 3 down from the highest on star wars jedi knight or my flat screen goes all pixelated.
Should i buy a monitor or keep my flat screen?

Hmm yes you are right lanz. I recently got a NEC 19" flat screen from Fry's, but I can play all games at highest resolution, it's supposed to be 1799x1344. And it was only 300 dollars. Now mind you flat screen is not necessarily flat pannel. (flat pannel means the screen is only a few inches thick.

A flat panel (LCD) is more or less locked in at a specific resolution because there are exactly that many pixels to render with. They can simulate higher pixel counts, but as you have noticed they look crappy when you do.
A flat screent (CRT) is a Trinitron monitor and works normally at various frequencies.
