get the radeon 9700 pro or 9800 pro if you have that much money. they both blow the 4600 away.

I'm not in beta, but I've seen every ss, and there is a pretty large difference in the graphics. Compare squeeky's ss's and hamma's. Hamma's look 10 x better. Hamma uses a radeon 9700 pro and squeeky uses a geforce mx.
Also, don't get an nvidia card. They don't compare to that of radeon's cards. The 9700 pro is a much better card than the 4600 and the 9500 pro is a little bit better then the 4600 and is cheaper. And if you want an fx card, go for the radeon 9800 pro, it did a little bit better then the 5800 ultra in standard tests, and much better in high detail/performance tests.

Guys, realize that he has a 1900+ CPU, that makes it a bottle neck for all the higher cards that are also way expensive.

upchuck9899, I recommend a GeForce4 Ti 4200 128MB. It's still a very fast card that you will be able to keep even if you upgrade your CPU, and you won't have to blow all your money on it.
If you really wanted to spend the $400, u'd be better off with getting that card and a CPU upgrade together(if your mobo can support it).

Here's a good one:
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...fer=pricewatch
It's a very nice make of that card and that site is very reputible.

If you also want a CPU upgrade let me know the make and model of your motherboard(mobo) and I'll see what it can take.

Get a 9700 or 9800 pro. The GeforceFX line is crap. It's the same price as 9700pro (actually more expensive in most cases), it doesn't out perform it in most tasks. It has a fan on it that sounds like a vacum cleaner and takes up one of your pci slots, and on top of that nVidia tells you not to use anti-aliasing (the thing that smooths out edges so they aren't jagged) while ATI tells you to use it. For some reason nVidia cards don't handle anti aliasing very well.

Open the case and look at the motherboard. The model is usually printed in big letters in between or near the PCI (the white ones) slots. Once you have that model do a search for it on google to find the brand.
