Question about early planetside

I am trying to remmember if a dev chat I read a long time ago was for Planetside or some other game.

It was a MMFPS, and one of the key features I remmember is it would dynamically look at the usage of the world and if one spot became a dead zone the game would dynamically drop something valuable down there like an energy resource. You would then go to your empire's boss (NPC) and get a mission, if you were a pilot the mission would be to bring a fuel ship out to that dead zone and get the energy ore. If you were a grunt the mission would be to escort the pilot to the energy ore.

Am I thinking of the early vision of Planetside or some other game? I am pretty certain it was the '99-'00 vision for planetside...

Some other game or way pre-development vision.

There are no NPC commanders, bosses, grunts or even animals...

Devs have indicated that they might have some neat things in the future but don't count on it until at least a year after release.

I know none of that is how it is now... But I would have sworn I remmember hearing something like that as the vision for Planetside. Even a FAQ about it with something like that in it.

I think your correct, in 1999 I first heard about Planetside and Im pretty sure it included NPCs and there were six factions instead of three. Dont hold me to that though, im not entirely sure.

Ok, so we have one vote for "Squick's been drinking the expired cough medicine." And one vote for I'm not crazy...

Anyone else remmember for sure if missions like what I said was what PS was originally supposed to be designed around?

I remeber hearing talk of missions given out by NPCs but I don't remeber any objects to make deadzones more active. But, hey, I could be all turned around on the subject.

Orignally, there were four factions, each was a corporation, with exception to the fourth, which was a Mercenary group.

I did not say you were drinking cough syrup

I DID say it might have been pre-development vision.

Personally I wish there were some cool missions to volunteer for.
