Darklight works like a charm. Yesterday I was in Enkidu, or maybe Akan, on Ishundar. I spawned, and upon finding the facility to be hacked, I took my suppressor down to the CC. Right outside I switched on darklight and sure enough, there was a cloaked hacker sitting in the corner waiting for me to go to the console. I ventilated him with my suppressor, and he didn't even get a shot off. Amazingly enough, there was another cloaker watching me the whole time from the opposite corner, and he could have easily killed me, but he must have figued my killing the other was just a fluke. For his mistake, he died and I resecured the facility. We lost it shortly afterwords anyway, but eh--it's the small victories.
The most annoying cloakers are outdoors. Especially terran cloakers stalking around outdoors with their repeater. Can't counter that with darklight.

yeah darklight isn't really necessary. It helps, but if you just keep your eyes open you'll catch them moving around. Darklight comes in real handy for those guys that don't have a problem spending 15 minutes to move 200 feet in game. The super patient and slow infiltrators are the worst.
Over all though, I'm using advanced regen until I get medic cert then I'll switch back to personal shield and eventually i'll pick up range magnifier |

I think darklight is an unneeded and overpowered implant.
Can I get an implant that strips away all the benefits and leaves only the negatives of a max user or tanker or just a plain old grunt? When I go up against someone with darklight, I die. No ifs, ands or buts. Well, unless I grenade them from a distance. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Infil cert, pros and cons: Pros: - Invisible when standing still (to people without darklight) - Fairly hard to see when crouch-walking (to people without darklight) - Still somewhat difficult to follow when running full tilt (for newbs without darklight, any non-retard can easily see a cloaker running) - Can get into a base more easily than other armor types (esp. with adv hacking) (unless there's someone with darklight nearby) Cons: - Weapon slots, or lack thereof. I get one pistol slot, 0 rifle slots. Before melee booster, I would carry a MAG, 2 boxes of AI bullets, REK, and one grenade. In order to switch between pistol, grenade, and REK, I have to manually swap them into the slot. Now that I have Melee Booster implant, I simply carry my REK and 6 grenades. I can do long range fighting and short (bodily contact) range, but have absolutely no midrange. - I can't use my best weapon, the knife, on maxes - I have very little inventory space. Aside from my one pistol slot, I have room for 5 grenades and my REK. That's it. No med kits, no BANK, no command tool, no repair gun, no med gun. - No armor If I come up against a non newb who knows what a cloaker looks like, or someone with darklight, I have VERY little chance to survive. I just hope I can pull my knife and switch on secondary mode or toss a gren at them fast enough before they kill me. --------------------------------------------------------------- Now Darklight DELETES any cons of the infiltrator suit, leaving me with only the negatives. No other implant is this powerful. I don't see an implant that removes the mosquito and reaver's ability to fly when I look at it. I don't see an implant that lets me turn off the firing of a normal grunt. I don't see an implant that forces a max to look only at the ground and removes his ability to move. These would be ridiculous! It would make using any of those things ludicrously hard! But that is exactly what darklight does to infiltrator suit users. Normally, without darklight, I can be seen when moving, and I just about glow when I'm actually attacking (which pulling a grenade back to throw counts as). I don't mind the hearing amplification implant, that still leaves some ambiguity as to where I am....but being in the same room as someone with darklight means I'm almost certainly going to die in about one second's time or less. |
