Prolific,
In response to your post, yes. In reality, most anti tank munitions are generally high velocity projectiles that use their own kinetic energy to penetrate the thick armor and destroy the vehicle. Most High Explosive munitions like grenade launchers and and artillery shells are primarily used for anti-personell. Some examples include the main gun of the M1 Abrams, which fires its Sabot ammunition to destroy armored vehicles. The M19 Grenade Launcher is not an anti vehicle weapon, it is an anti personell weapon. The A-10 Thunderbolt is armed with a GAU-500 Avenger 60mm rotary cannon which fires high velocity uranium depleted rounds used to pierce vehicular armor. The whole entire purpose of armored infantry transport was to protect the infantry from high explosive munitions like grenades that burst into small pieces of shrapnel. In closing the change does make sense, however I would like to qualify that by saying that due to the nature of this game, and it's interlocking dependencies on different weapon systems and their effectiveness on different units, it does present some problems that it also retains its AP capabilities. The dependencies I mentioned above are for game balance so that it forces cooperation among all players from the same faction. No one unit can carry a battle all by itself by fulfilling multiple roles. I think that if the new MAX now uses the gun configuration to defeat armor that it should be less effective against infantry. |

I stand corrected, thank you MR. V!
In fact I took the oppritunity to look up the exact details. It appears I was also incorrect about the weapon name it is called a 30 mm GAU-8/A seven-barrel Gatling gun, to be exact (looked it up on the web). I believe it is the same gun used by the Navy CIWS system on board most of their vessels as a close anti-missle system (I used to be in the Navy, the ship I was on had a couple of them, and I was fortunate to see them fired off once, simply awesome!) |

(warning: rambling ahead.. I think.. maybe, I dunno. I'm tired. I cant guarantee the following paragraphs will be easy to read. Or fun. Or whatever. yeah...)
I was showing a friend the game today as a vanu max (vanu suck! ...though I admit I had fun flying around in those things lol), and I was really surprised when I saw the 'new' maxes in combat. The chaingun MAXes flatten infantry nearly as fast as before, and now they chew through armor at a frightening rate as well. The grenade launcher one is pretty damn mean as well. Just one of em can quickly clear everyone out of a courtyard by peppering the area with grenades. It looks really cool too The only things I really noticed was it seems like it's pretty tricky to hit someone up on a wall. I did notice one guy making use of the 3-second fuse to air-burst them right over the heads of some unlucky inf though, so I guess we'll have to see what happens when people have had more time with them. It also seemed that Vanu AI vs Terran AI = dead purple guy in most indoor battles. Those grenades do some pretty nasty damage to armor if they hit you dead-on. I urge all you Vanu MAX drivers to be very careful hehe In closing, I think the changes are pretty cool... but could stand to see a little tweaking. Not much, mind you (yes you, you TR scum)... but I dont think a dedicated anti-armor max should still cut down infantry like that It might not be a bad idea to give the anti-inf grenades a (very) close range proximity fuse too, but I guess we'll have to wait and see how the TR MAX drivers adapt first. <shrug>

I noticed today that the new TR max dual cycler was owning my vanguard way too quickly.
Time for a re-tweak
