Alright so I'm solely playing Vanu on Johari as two characters: Shift and Upshift. Shift is BR8 Reinforced AV Med-assault. Upshift is Comet/Starfire/Quasar MAX + Infiltrator(for kicks). I have played in coordinated 10 man squads for the last few days and found out some pretty good tactics. Here are some:
1. VS MAX Jumpjets: Fortunately these are not pretty sparkles of dust under the boots of VS purly for show. They can help you get to the battle alot faster than other MAXs if you have to run because you can fly over unclimbable mountains (I have only found one ravine too deep to fly out of). Also even more valuable is the maneurverability they give you in a base situation. ex: I was fighting an NC max at an NC base. I had just killed three infantry and my armor was about half out. I was in a Comet MAX, but the NC was also in their AV MAX (the one that shoots rockets). He was on the wall and had cover up to his chest while I was on the ground in the open. I was about to die and hit my boosters. My Tribes training kicked in and I adjusted for my upward thrust and managed to land 6 Comet shots right on him as I went up. He went down; I landed with only a few more health points missing. Jumpjets are a tactical asset, not just a toy 2. VS MAX configs: Personally I am in love with the Comet config because it has plasma effects, splash damage, and a fast refire rate. It also has a small CoF and low recoil, 10 shot clip and a relitivly fast reloud rate. I flanked a squad of 6-7 guys on the crest of a hill and took them all out before dying with Comet shells. The Quasar is my next choice. It is almost useless against MAXs (I've jumped rooted TR AI MAXs from behind and still died when they turned around finally) but it sure does slice and dice infantry like Cutco knives. I use it when Comet is recharging or I'm fighting almost solely infantry. Starfire: Don't care much for this config at all since I don't bother fighting air vehicles much, but I have a friend who swears by it and brings it good XP but shooting down Reavers. |

Yesterday was the unofficial Squick vs AV maxes day. I went one on one vs a minimum of five anti-vehicle maxes from both Vanu and TR. One thing I can say without a doubt is the Vanu max is no where near as powerfull against infantry as the "changed" dual cycler max is. It is certainly not as instant of a death as it was pre-patch, but in close range fighting without any cover I was only able to win one fight. I have been using the Phoenix for about a month and a half now, every build I have ever had used the Phoenix. The Vanu max was much different, their bolts did have some splash damage, but they were much easier to dodge then Terrans were, and when they actually did make direct contact they did very little damage. I was able to defeat all five of the Vanu maxes one on one, even in close range without direct cover!

Your Vanu is very similar to my character on Dalton - Quasar & Comet, then stealth and hacking.
Jumpjets certainly make all the difference, it is such a useful and fun ability. And the Comet just carves up other Max units, especially rooted TR ones that present a nice stationary target. |
