Greetings all, I've been following the Planetside news lately, and am interested in buying it.
However, after going through all those release problem with many MMORPGs (Anarchy Online being the worse), I want to ask if you guys think the game is ready for release? I mean is it worth 50 bucks to take it back home right away? Or should I wait a month or two until the price drops and the bugs all fixed before I buy? So far reading the forums I still read there are quite a few problems and am questioning if the game is ready? Too bad I didn't get into beta or I could decide this for myself. Thanks |

Yes, you must buy the game, you must buy the game, you must buy the game, you must buy the game, you must buy the game, you must buy the game....
Why you might ask? The game is not as bad as most of the posts make it out to be, you have to understand that most of the people that like it as In Game, and not here, and most of the people who dont for 1 reason or another ARE here *and in beta forums* posting. this game is great, you couldnt get a better TeemFPS game, simple as that. I dont know what some people were looking for, I think that a lot of it is just many of the MMORPG types do not like it due to no real levels that make it so a lvl100 can kill a million lvl 10s and not worry about it. Also, it is a constant war, thus there are no Defined missions, so for those with out a good outfit, or squad even, will feel like there is no point. But the buity of it all is that you create your own point. Such as: Earlier today I went out to rescue a squad mate from behind enemy lines, I ended up going down and we had to walk across the map back to friendly territory. Now this was fun, we had no vechs, no place to get a max, no nothing, just us in our agile armor walking across a map in enemy territory. We ran into many fire fights, had reavers chance us around, a few maxs run after us, etc etc, and prob spent a good half hour just getting back to the lines under fire most of the time. When we walked into the base, there was no mission well done by the game, there was no "you win" pop up, but that was a mission accomplished. Thus, those that can not understand that in a persistent world you have to create your own missions will feel that there is no point, why attack a base if you might just get pushed back 5 min later, but if you can get into a good outfit, many of those things go away since you are being sent (or sending people) on missions all the time, and your result can affect the balance of the entire area, or even in operations for major bases, your ability can affect the entire shift of power of the content and thus the entirety of the world.. You would be surprised how much 1 act can change things. Last night on Cyssor, My outfit was able to break the TR liens, storm the center beach under very very heavy fire (where did you get soo many prowlers???) and took control of the dropship center. If the servers would not have gone down (beta you know) then it looked like this one capture would have shifted the entire power structure of the empires on that cont.

If you are a member of an outfit or plan to be, then yes. If you are the solo type who likes to be able to accomplish things on his own (example would be the lone capper on pubs in T1/T2 who liked to hop in the base by himself grab the flag and cap) then no.
I honestly think pick up squads are going to get rolled over by the larger outfits once the game goes live. I could be wrong but aside from another outfit I really don't see what can stand up to an advance by 80 people who are well organized and used to working and playing together.

Get it, worship it, sell Sony your soul. This game is the most beautiful thing on the earth.
I haven't slept more than 5 hours a night since I got the dang beta and can't imagine what release will be like. Vulcan-you are a poet.

you can group 3, 10 man squads, into 1 platoon, under 1 leader, this feature is not working yet, but will be *soon*

I probably will not be buying it at releaes.. although I love the beta so far so my temptation grows as the days go by. The main issue with persistant world games for me is the price of the box drops dramatically as it ages-- until it is free aside from the monthly cost. I have plenty to do to keep my busy and I too am suffering from sleep deprevation since I got into beta. I'm worried it may eat up TOO much of my time, it is that fun! Ah well I'll let it age some, see what they add on to it, and get it for $30 in a month or two-- or if I see it on sale 8)
