Yeah, I got a problem. I just upgraded my comp to an ATI Radeon 9500 pro and an athlon xp 2400+ (2gig). I know I have 256 mb ram, but I don't know whether it's sdram or ddrram. I plan on having 512 mb 2100 266 mhz ddr ram. So if I do have sdram, then i have to get 512 ddr. If I have ddrram, then i can just get 256 ddr. Any programs you can download that show your type of ram? Or can someone get me some pics of what each ram looks like so i can open my comp and take a look?
Also, with an ati radeon 9500 pro, an athlon xp 2400+, and 512 mb 2100 ddr ram, can i expect to run ps at pretty high settings? |

forget it, i just called the store i bought it from, they said my system has 256 mb ddr 2100 266 mhz. So cheers for me, ty for trying to help me out, i appreciate it.
edit: Does anyone know if with that system 512 mb is enough to run at high settings? I'd hate to have to buy a 512 stick (256 costs 20$, 512 costs 70$). Wife would yell at me if i went for the 512. |

Not long after they gave us the ability to turn on high res textures I upgraded to a gig of ram because I thought performance was slow for a period of time after entering the game at 512. Not all the high res textures buy you much as far as eye candy goes though.

Could I get it to look like that with good fps in large battles with 512 mb ram? Probably not, but i can always hope. |

i tell you what.
never get a radeon 8500 le even if it has 128mb ram. i got one from saphire tech. it's cheap but it blows. the uses cheap ass ram from crucial (not that they dont make good ram) it is slow as hell 6ns ram not the zippy 3ns ram. THATS why it was cheap.... i performed about 20% below expected with a comparison to my friend's ati radeon 8500 which cost 200 dollars more than mine. so really i cant complain. i saved a crap load for only a 20% drop. but being an engineer i always want perfection. |

Yeah, Saphiretech had a cheaper 9500 pro than ati, but then i thought about it, and i concluded that spending an extra 40$ is worth not having the agony of having to go through tech support or having it be defective and when sending it back to the retailer it taking two months to get a non dead one back to me.
