I am currently playing a TR sniper with a the following certs: Medium Assault, Sniping (Duh!), and Reinforced. I have been using a cycler as my backup weapon but was looking for a good long range AV weapon. I am tired of putting 7 Bolts into a MAX just to watch it slowly make its way to me, then kill me. I was wondering wich would be the best AV for killing MAXs at a range, and vehichles when they show up. I was thinking Striker, but was wondering if the decimator is any good for what I am looking to do. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I personally would get special assault.
If you want to kill a MAX...shoot them with one Decimator, watch them turn around...and shoot them in the face with the second, and watch them fall over dead. Other than that, I would keep a cycler with AP ammo in it. or get surge and run!

As a sniper, you shouldn't be wearing reinforced armor. You're closing off a host of options, and if you stopped plinking at the wrong units, they won't charge to whatever easily accessible location you could possibly be in while wearing reinforced.
Drop reinforced, learn to love the repeater pistol, invest in a skeeter or reaver--now that's a sniper. What you're doing atm is complementing your bolt driver cert.

I've never played a sniper much, but I don't see the Basilisk as a terrible vehicle instead of a Mosquito or Reaver. It's quite quick too, and just a bit less mobile. I guess it's really up to the sniper though -- is crappier runaway vehicle worth the added durability and extra rifle slot, as well as the additional inventory space?
Anyway, yes, Striker has my vote too. Decimator is simply not accurate enough at range, as far as I'm concerned. Hell, a Striker would probably be better for scaring them off, too, as they know they can't avoid the shots if they get fairly close. |

Eventually I'll have three sniper loadouts again.
One in Agile with Bolt Driver and ammo. This one lets me fly a Mosquito to some really nice sniper positions that are unreachable from the ground. One in reinforced with a Bolt driver and Jackhammer so I can fight in bases effectively and then head up top to snipe without switching loadouts. And another in reinforced with a Bolt Driver and a Phoenix so when 5 reavers show up at the base/tower we're assaulting (and they always do) I can actually do something about it. Always take a REK, BANK (if you can) and a few med kits. The REK because you never know when it might come in handy and if you have a bank and some medkits you can live a lot longer, especially if counter-sniping. That said being able to do all that will cost you a lot, 18 certs I think, which doesn't leave you a lot of room to get other things.

It seems to me that agile is best for assault, when you have to get into the best terrain, and that Reinforced is best for defence, when you already have stairs leading to the tower walls. Thanks to all of you, I think I will probably go with the Striker because of the lock on fetaure. Cya ya all gameside.

Reinforced all the way. It's impossible to defend yourself if you do come across a max with only a pistol. I would know from experience

Go to the weapons training and let me know how many shots it takes to kill a max with a bolt driver..it's gonna be a lot.
Hell just this morning one stubborn NC max ate 12-14 strikers at medium range and did not die. Most were direct hits. I did not see it using a protective shield. Luckilly I had a couple of plasma grenades to finish it off by lobbing them over the base wall |

*points to Seer's post*
that about says it. pretty much......sniper...discovered...run or die. a wee bit extra armor isnt going to help your situation much in that case. a wee bit of extra "run like hell" just might. your mileage may vary

Striker = teh win as far as I'm concerned. I love taking MAX with it.
So if you want to make sure you have plenty of ammo for both, I'd keep the reinforced. It won't hurt you very much at all, and getting a Reaver/Mosquito is counterproductive if you are mainly going to just fly to your sniping spot and then ground it. Just my thoughts... |

If you're concerned with MAXes and vehicles, I'd take a reinforced with an AV or Special Assault weapon in the extra rifle slot. If you want to engage MAxes at long range, I'd definitely take the AV cert... up close nothing beats a devestator.
Devestators rock. It's VERY difficult to hit a moving target past 10 meters, but against stationary targets, or at point-blank, the devestator can do HUGE amounts of damage to vehicular targets. I think you can one-shot buggies, I KNOW you can one-shot an ANT. Hovering mosquitos and reavers are in for a big suprise, it'll almost 1-shot a skeeter, and two shots kills a reaver. If you're more interested in a pure anti-infantry role, it's hard to beat the sniper/heavy assault combo. You end up being a little less effective at medium range (20-50 meters, give or take) but you're absolutely deadly at long and short. I had quite a bit of fun with the Jackhammer last night. Dropped an agile with a single shot using the secondary fire on several occasions. VERY satisfying. Walking up behind a locked-down TR MAX and dumping a clip of AP up his tailpipe was fun too, though he and his buddies did manage to take out our AMS, and another MAX took ME out. Ouchy. |

I currently equip reinforced exo, a sniper rifle, and cycler. This is good for long and medium range, as I can carry lots of ammo for both, including grenades and 3 med packs. Eventually, I'd like to get some anti-vehic certs to pick up a striker or some such. I also use a lightning with agile armor and sniper rifle (at the same time equipping the engineering repair tool). That way, I can drive to remote locations/hilltops, etc. and shell bases, mow down infantry, repair my own tank, AND set up sniping opportunities with quick get-aways. EXCELLENT strategy.

If you want to be a focused sniper...go agile.... if you want to break out of the sniper thang a bit...reinforced is great.
Sometimes i get bored of just hangin out up on a hill waiting for someone to stick their head out....nice to switch over to your cylcer or sweeper and go down and kick some butt face to face.
