I really liked the BF1942 tank controls. It was a lot more fun to be able to control a tank all by yourself IMO. I know some people like the teamwork that comes with a 2 man tank, so here is my proposal: Make it so that you can switch back and forth. If you wanted to control the hole tank you could. Then, if your squad mate wants to take up the guns, you could switch the weapons systems over to him. After all, why spend the 4 certs for a heavy tank, if all you get to do is drive?

Yeah, I decided to drive the vanguard, but it really isn't that much fun to drive a tank, its a hell of a lot more fun to shoot stuff. They should have the a way to change from pilot to gunner, though not instantly. Like Alt-g in tanks should allow you to switch to open position. Instead of hopping out then getting back in just have one button. Its a pain when a solo infantry with AV gun jumps out and all you can do is try to run him over. Just my opinion though it might end up being a little cheap. People could drive a bunch of tanks into a base then switch modes without doing much and be able to lvl a entire base in less than a minute.

No this wouldn't fit into the game. The game is designed so that if you're not in a squad then you're not as powerful. Its focus is on teamwork and army vs army warfare. If every guy out there could drive a powerful tank by himself, the game would turn into tank wars.

I enjoy driving a Prowler, but it's absolutely no surprise to me when I run into 3 or 4 MagRiders. It's painfully obvious that the reason tanks are fairly rare on the TR and, although to a slightly lesser extend, the Vanguard, side of it is because, unlike the MagRider, the driver cannot shoot anything. Some people do like driving, but most people do not. That fact alone keeps tanks fairly rare. As one guy said, who wants to pay 3 certs to be a taxi driver, not even getting credit for the kills your gunners get?
As for the issue at hand though, letting tanks be 1-man would make them much more common, and then they'd have to be nerfed considerably, to be just as fragile as BF1942's tanks are. |

Well I enjoy gunning the mag rider, but I hate driving it. Despite having the gun, I hate driving the hover tanks.
And I run when I see a vanguard. Those tanks are the scariest thing on the battle field IMO. I'm sorry, but if you want a one-man tank you're stuck with the lightning. I know I know, it sucks and even a foot soldier like me can blow it up without using AV weapons, but that's the only one-man tank you'll get. |

But, as far as the game goes, I think they want to use the boring part of being the driver as a method of keeping tanks rare, without neutering them in power. |

I find driving the magrider quite funny... It nimble and funny to drive AND you get a gun
Personnally i think more ppl should get the tank certs... They are way to rare on the battlefield, and when they show up, they can change the curse of a battle completely. And you are forgetting that you can jump out of the tank, and still kick ass. The agile armor doesnt suck that bad. So you jump out, and leave one heavy ass gunning platform in the yard, while protecting it from AV personell with your weapon of choice. The Heavyassault weapon is ideal here. Lets see more tanks out there. |

As for XP sharing between driver and gunner, that makes it all the more important to get into squads (or better yet, outfits) and team up in the tank. I often gun for Warborn's Prowler and I know he appreciates having me in there, even if it's only for the shared XP he's getting. Last edited by Chryse; 2003-05-12 at 08:42 AM. |

I love love love tanks.. drive them ALOT. I have a few thoughts to add to this.
Driving- I drive 100% from third person. It is much easier to see what is going on and well it looks cool 8) Magrider gun that the driver uses is pathetic. The only time I use it is if the infantry guy is hiding behind trees. Otherwise I just run them over. I agree it should stay a 2 person vehicle because they are very powerful when used correctly and just 1 or 2 can swing a fight. It does require teamwork and as I driver I get irritated sometimes but thats part of the game. I would love to have quickey voice commands for front, left, right, rear though. Now the Thresher, that thing needs help. Fun to drive but gun stinks and has crap armor. |

The other reason why Magrider are everywhere, is the fact they are the fastest tank around. they plow through infantry like a bulldozer. Not to mention their railgun thingy shoot straight. and hits what it's aiming almost instantly.

Unless they changed the speeds last patch the Magrider is the slowest tank with the Prowler and Vanguard tied for fastest (Vaguard having an acceleration advantage). The Magrider does move significantly faster cross country though beacuse of it hovering and being able to climb hills better.
