Ok i have to ask this cause i am in a bit of confusion at the moment.
I know the game code is chaotic and severely un-optimized thus causing all sorts of issues. My main question here is; I am playing, all of a sudden the screen just FREEZES for like 3 to 5 seconds. Lag or PC? Another thing that always happens and i just have to wait it out is when i log into the game, get out of the launch pad thing, open the respawn building door, the game will freeze for about 10 seconds. nothing i can do there. I do understand its caching the data and all but comeon, 10secs? My system specs are: AMD ATHLON XP 1800+ 512 DDR Ram 128 meg Geforce 4 TI 4200 60Gig IBM HD. Please dont reply if you are gonna say my system isnt up to par. thanks. |

it could be new textures loading. as you travel around, you hit areas that seem to cause new or alternate textures to be loaded. I've been using an old EQ trick of late that seems to help at least a little. when you enter a new area and the stuttering starts to happen. stop, turn slowly in a few complete circles and let all the textures for the area load. that's relieved a bit of the stuttering on my machine, altho surely not all.
but if anything...no, its not just you and I strongly doubt its your system (in this respect anyway) peace (unless I target you)

This is not lag. Lag is PS happens when you seem to still be moving but the game does not respond to your actions appropriately. You can run around and try to acces machines and doors but they do not respond until the lag is gone. The freezing you are describing sounds like texture loading or hard drive access. I don't seem to have this problem with a similar system BUT 756 megs of RAM. Maybe it has to load some textures during this time.. is your hard drive spinning when it freezes?
Aside from that I'm not sure what to do, make sure your hard drive is defragged and all that and hope the optimization helps |

Hey try testing out your speed of your internet connection using speed checks on the internet. I had a T1 connection at a building I was in and I was playing the beta (dont tell my boss) when I had the same damn problem. So I took some advice and downloaded a program that changes certain things about your connection and presto, I was cruising at 19 ping and was speed gonzales on a crappy dell system with 1 gig processor and a crappy geforce3 mx card with 32 mb of ram and (EWWW!!!) it was attached to a PCI port and sucked ass. If it wasn't for the T1 connection I woulda thrown it out the window!!!

Same problem, but I have worse specs, but perfectly fine for the game.
p4 1.9 geforce3ti 500 512mb RAM (i dunno if its DDR or SDR, dont know how to check it) I got rid of some viruses which improved my comp a little bit, but it is still somewhat choppy. My friend on the other hand, with specs around yours runs perfectly fine besides the fact that he disconnects about every 15 mins. I dont get it, do a virus check, delete some...."stuff"....and see how it works.
