Unhappy Maxx's seem to take away from the fps aspect of the game.

The role i want to play in this game is that of a skilled foot solder that specializes in killing other infantry as thats what a fps is at its core and thats what i enjoy doing. The problem is not only do we have vehicles for outdoor combat but now planetside takes it beyond bf1942 and adds a large almost mech type unit called a max which makes the sneaky indoors infantry warrior almost worthless when he can play a boring slow max. A max doesnt even play like a fps because its so slow and heavily armored you're basically playing a mech game when you play a max. The success of a max is less determined by player skill than a soldier in this or any other game because his strength is in his huge armor rather than finesse. What i ask now is what place does a soldier have in this game that isnt meant to hack, pilor or heal. Sniping is decent but still wont be a successful as a lardass max hauling his l33t arse all over the field untill 5 players finally bring him down. I just feel like this game would be extremely better without maxes who just seem like a players way of escaping the restraints of their own skill and buying it with certifications.

If you don't like MAX's don't use them and kill them.

Its not just that i dont like to use them it's that they have replaced the commando style infantry in this game and thus made trying to be one without being a max futile. A max can specialize in anti whatever an infantry unit can specialize in and do it better, so if you dont want to hack heal or repair why would you not use a maxx, but then you're forced to play an almost mech style game rather than a normal fps. Theres no excitement in playing a max yet if you want to succeed as a nonpilot you almost have to use one. The problem is i dont like fighting them either, i use a sniper rifle and a heavy assault gun and no matter how many cirlces i run around a max blasting him he will eventually kill me with his everquest rpg skills that he used to level up and certify in max.

I have played as an Infiltrator, a pilot, a grunt, a MAX, and currently as a sniper. I think that the only thing that makes MAXs overpowered is their ease of acces. That means, that in the first week or so of PS MAXs will rule all, but as soon as people get the certs to use their AV weapons, MAXs won't be so prominent. Personally, I think the whole thing is pretty equal. Sure, it is harder to kill a MAX then a grunt, but MAXs get stopped at enemy door (no hacking) and can't switch weapons depending on the circumstance.

Wow this debate hasw only happened everytime a new player meets a max for the first t

I kill MAX's like it's cool. I also hack kill infantry by the boat load, blow up gens and wear refinforced so i can switch between roles easily. ultimately I can then switch into my agile armor and set up an ams anywhere on the planet to really exploit my advantage over MAX's who have to get their gear from a hardened facility and has a wait timer on it. Special assaultt is an infantry grunts best friend there is no weapons package bar none that's got more versaltility, two decimators kill max's everytime. Take heart young infantryman you just need practice and then youll take heart in killing the stupid slow max's like the rest of us.

no offense, but if you blow up gens, then i think you're probably not that skilled. I agree with the original thread dude. I think so very much too, but i think this game is more strategy oriented, so it doesn't matter. It's not really an FPS at heart, because aiming is soooooo easy. I've never run into a position where somone out gunned me, i've only run into possitions where they were better equipped. So, apperently this wasn't exactly the game i was looking for, but it's still pretty good, and i'll eventually get used to some of the crap i have learned to hate emensly, EG maxes and MASSIVE unbalances like them. I guess when you have such a huge and complex game, then it is pretty hard to balance it well, so i guess i'll just shut up and stop ranting really badly like i am right now, because it is probably pissing people off, and we don't want that, because i might get people mad at me, and then they would act mean in the future, which usually isn't fun, because then they make insulting comments to you. Hahaha, i was gonna go on further, but i'm not smart enough to come up with more
