Unfortunately, my computer is over 3 years old. I have updated video and sound card, but was too cheap to buy new processor. I currently have a P3/800 mhz with 512 RAM. Is Planetside able to run on my current computer? I would like to know this before I purchase game.
Thanks... |

I know for a fact that an P3 866 with 3 128 sticks or ram, and a G4 460 runs PS quite well.

Well... I'm running it playably on the following:
AMD Duron 800MHz (no overclocking) 512MB RAM GeForce MX420 (275MHz/375MHz mild overclock) It's not great, but it's definitely playable at medium detail. Haven't bothered finding out what the actual FPS is since it's kind of irrelevant (it's not like it's gonna be anything to write home about, is it?). Far more important is your connection speed. While I'm on a high quality connection, I'm about as far away from the servers you can get, so I ping in the 200-320ms range. This results in requiring more target leading than you might think. A system at this level of spec WILL choke on large battles, though, so you need to pick your fights. I don't know whether it's related either, but about once every hour or so the game will lock for about 5-15 seconds, and then continue fine. Surprisingly I've only died about 4 times due to this, and only one of those times due to enemy fire. The rest have been collisions while NOEing my skeeter... Anyway, I'm managing to really enjoy the game. |
