Planetside has interested me since Sony announced their creation. I have been looking forward to buying the game. Now I know that MMOGs usually have a rough beginning, and I shouldnt expect god-like coding right off the bat.
However, there is an few issue that I was wondering about before I buy the game. Since the Sony boards are only for subscribed members, though I'd ask here:

I have been trying to get an average ping for the west coast servers, so I'm using PSMon (a good idea?) and they seem to get really low (45 ping) but they also spike out at 999. Is the PSMon is accurate enough to rely on? (My connection is 256kb/s Cable)
And is there a good chance that the lag will decrease to a (hopefully) stead 150ish ping range in the future?

I'm not really worried about anything else, since I know the 13 dollars is going to good use for constant updates to make PS better, but I dont know if I could bare playing a FPS with a ping of 300+. Any helpful info would be appreciated.

PSMon uses standard methods to ping the server. Must be some kind of a bug spiking to 999.

Another thing you can do is open your command prompt and type

ping markov.planetside.com
