Precisely.

The context of my OP was strictly for founding an outfit, which I am considering. The details I mentioned were all things I personally feel would greatly benefit the members of the outfit, and make things run smothly. Especially given that I do not like to run an outfit as a dictator, and I like a lot of "military flavor" in a cooperative environment which requires tools to delegate functional authority, and member feed back.

Joining an outfit should be 100% free, same for enjoying, and making use of those tools, as members. However, I do see a developer case for requiring an outfit founder to pay for a premium outfit package so that the developers can justify making it very robust, with a very polished presentation to those that see it everyday.

I am also in the "one time cost" camp. An on-going cost would greatly disuade me from starting an outfit. Although, non-mandatory, newly developed additions wouldnt, as long as the new stuff is reasonably priced and beneficial. A good example being... in a year or so, outfit "motherships" being added into the game as an outfit content upgrade available to outfit founders for a one-time reasonable fee.

That was the general idea anyway...

I don't think they need to make you pay to justify making it robust. What justifies the worth of making it robust is making people want to play the game. They basically can't justify not making it robust.

I personally still feel like paying for this is not a good way to go, but honestly if they chose to make you pay a founders fee or pay for extra features its fine cause it's there game and they need to make money. I just hope it wouldn't cause too much resentment with customers. The arguement being that someone who wants to make an outfit but isn't financially capable of paying or isnt as serious would still want all the features, and I could see people feeling left out and getting mad.

And I wouldn't want to see pay for outfit mothership cause that is pay 2 win.

Well if all that stuff is in, and its free, then great! I just want that stuff in there...

As for the mothership being pay to win, I didnt realize the accepted encarnation had a power aspect to it, I never saw it that way. However, if there is a game effecting power aspect to it, then yes, it should not be a pay item.

My OP is just a suggestion to the developers on what I would like to see as part of a good premium outfit package, since I personally suspect that is what they will do. If not, then I have no problem with it being simply a "complete outfit package" instead...

Gotta pay to be a customer!

Oh, I'd forgotten that. Ages ago somebody pointed out that if there's a fee associated with outfit creation or tools then it makes those tools a commodity rather than just a feature. The point being that having a revenue stream from something makes it much easier to convince an apathetic board of profit motivated corporates that spending resources to further develop that feature is a good idea. So the hope is that if outfits become payed for then the devs have an excuse to develop some really good outfit features.

I wouldn't sell motherships though. Granted there's like a dozen different ways they might work, but I can't imagine them not granting some form of power.

I remember this, I think I was in that conversation, too. Since this is such a big deal to me in PS2, I kinda hope this is how it goes. Though, I give the nod to those that believe there should be, at minimum, a base outfit setup that is very community friendly, even for a large outfits (and I dont mean to use the word "base" in a negative way).

I have to confess, I misunderstood the concept, and I probably shouldnt have... I envisioned a mothership as simply a really nice sanctuary-esque platform for outfits to have a "secure" and private area to stage and rest. One with a really nice view... (LOL), and a lot of flavor... Complete with visual terminals for viewing the strategic map, cargo sections that look like armor, aircav, infantry, etc. staging areas (for show, but cool) that tankers, pilots, etc., could "stage" in, for a bit of organizational flair... Perhaps outfit logos and selectable music... things that are motivational, and inspirational, but no real "power" per se.

Now, I'm starting to think the prevailing idea is that the mothership will be functional... Perhaps a source for orbital strikes, resource bonuses, focusable drop-pod launchers, Galaxy launch bays... stuff like that. So a mothership would, in fact, be a power item...

Well, either way, it will be an interesting beta... if the damn thing ever starts...
