I say don't worry about this till Beta, not because "wait for beta!", but because we don't know if this is a special type of tower or not. They might have created a specialty towers located in areas without bases nearby for resupply of vehicles, to keep the battles more heated away from the bases.

The forward garrisons in the video are for E3 only. The actual towers that will spawn vehicles (one type of tower spawns land vehicles, the other spawns air) are pretty much the PS1 equivalent of a base. There are 70+ capture points on a continent now, instead of 10-15+. Towers now control land, they aren't just a nearby structure to help take a base.

Towers are the new base and bases are fucking huge. Like 4x as large as they were in the first game.

So spawning vehicles at towers makes a lot of sense, because they will be locations that you need to attack and defend like a base in the first game.

Towers control their own regions, now.

So, I think what you mean to say is "The potential for enemy attackers to spawn vehicles an entire region away from a base is probably the biggest threat to coordinated attacks such as armor columns."

It'll be fine. Those towers are going to be 1-3 hexes away, most of the time, so there will be plenty of room to convoy.

I remember waiting in endless lines for vehicles, some reached well over 5 minutes. Much of the time it was worth spawning at a different base to get your vehicle. I'm POSITIVE they will implement such a feature to make sure that bases are still the primary points that vehicles are spawned.

Imagine the enemy has set up an effective defense right in front of your tower. Now how cool would ot be for your outfit to set up a big armored column and drive around and flank the enemy inside enemy territory. Now thats going to be bad assed.

Lets keep in mind that the towers are very far from each other and likely equidistant from the bases it sits between (maybe). Factions will fight over these towers to have the PRIVILEGE of being able to spawn at a place around 50% closer to their target base. Likewise having that there is a very important defensive setpiece for the battles (much more interesting than the old towers fo sho). And towers arent that close to the bases either...at least not that I've seen. So your armored column needs will still be fulfilled good sir.

The huge number of capture points and combat areas in the game makes it a much more dynamic playspace than PS1. There will be multiple battles per faction going on in each continent, over bases, cap points, towers, and they will be of all different shapes and sizes. Airplanes and Tanks and Infantry oh my

I think part of the reason is to make it easier to get back in battle. It makes sense if we're trying to make planetside 2 a little faster paced. There was always a weird calmness when you went back to base to pull a vehicle while the rest of the team was fighting out of an ams in planetside 1. Personally, I think it'll end up being a good thing. Bases still have their purpose (harder to capture b/c multiple capture points, and I'm assuming they'll give more resources).

I see the towers as a SUPPLEMENT to the bases, not as a replacement. Who knows though, I can still see lines being a way of limiting vehicle spawning at a tower, but I know nothing! Just like Jon Snow. Hopefully someone gets that reference.

Higby mentions that those forward bases were made specifically for E3 so everyone could try out all the vehicles in combat.
